Haivision, a leader in video streaming solutions, today announced SRT Peer-to-Peer (SRT P2P) – a new open source contribution to the SRT framework for low latency video delivery to broad scale audiences. The innovative new technology is being demonstrated at The NAB Show in Las Vegas at the Haivision booth SU6714 from April 8-11.
With universal HTML5 browser support, SRT P2P is a lightweight, plugin-free decentralized peer-to-peer streaming technology that replicates low latency video streams securely between clients, enabling broad scale video delivery. Unlike higher-latency, segmented video delivery, SRT P2P is built on multicast concepts and real-time video streaming. Haivision is introducing the technology to enable video stream delivery for private broadcasting or within corporations, reducing egress bandwidth for scalable public internet delivery, or as an alternative to IP multicast over LAN/WAN.
Prior to releasing SRT P2P to the open source community, Haivision is seeking partners to collaborate and stress test the technology at scale. Interested developers or service providers should send an email to partners@haivision.com.
SRT P2P is the latest development for the SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) initiative that Haivision started in 2017 when the company open sourced the SRT protocol and technology stack. SRT has been endorsed as a low latency contribution and distribution streaming protocol by over 200 companies across the broadcast and streaming industries. With a focus on video delivery, SRT P2P extends the SRT initiative to create a comprehensive framework for high performance streaming from contribution through distribution and into delivery.
“We are creating a series of ecosystem partnerships and open source collaborations to solve today’s video streaming challenges,” said Marc Cymontkowski, vice president of engineering at Haivision. “The open source community is critical to the success, adoption and continued development of the SRT protocol and we’re looking forward to helping drive this initiative forward into the future.”
